L-R: Alternate Chair, WIEN 2025 Electoral Committee, Mrs Nneka Obi; President, Mrs Eyono Fatayi-Williams; Executive Secretary, Engr Asanimo Omezei; and Vice President, Upstream, Engr Ifeoma Ukabiala at the Pre-2025 AGM Media Parley on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in Lagos.
The Women in Energy Network (WIEN) have re-affirmed their commitment to creating inclusive opportunities for women at every level of the energy value chain.
The women made this commitment while celebrating WIEN’S five years of growth and influence as the network held its fourth Annual General Meeting (AGM) and presented its newly elected executive committee on Tuesday, 25th November in Lagos.
Addressing the media prior to the AGM, the incumbent president whose re-election was announced during the AGM itself, Mrs Eyono Fatayi-Williams stated: “Five years ago, we imagined a space where women could grow, lead, and influence the energy sector. Today, that vision is alive, thriving, and shaping the future of Nigeria’s energy landscape.”
According to Fatayi-Williams, WIEN started with about 20 members but now boasts a membership of 1,100 members, including corporate partners such as NNPC Retail Limited, Lonadek Global Services, Tenaris Nigeria, and TotalEnergies.
Since its founding in 2020, WIEN has grown into a powerful platform connecting women professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders across upstream, midstream, downstream, and energy services.
Fatayi-Williams, in the interactive session with energy correspondents reeled out a number of impactful achievements including:
- The 2025 WIEN International Women’s Day celebrations, which included STEM-focused career fairs in Lagos and Port Harcourt for girls in government secondary schools. Through mentorship, career talks, and interactive sessions, young women saw firsthand that careers in energy and technology are not only possible but attainable.
- Partnerships with initiatives such as the Vital Voices Mentoring Walk and participation in the American Business Council IWD Summit underscored WIEN’s commitment to leadership development, mentorship, and equity in the workplace.
- WIEN’s presence in the Nigerian energy sector grew stronger through active participation in major conferences and forums, including NOG Energy Week, Offshore Technology Conference, IoT West Africa, PnW Nigeria Conference, Africa Energy Technology Conference (Ghana), and Gastech 2025 (Milan).
“These engagements gave members opportunities to showcase expertise, network with key stakeholders, and advocate for gender-inclusive policies”, stated the WIEN President.
According to her, WIEN have also participated in strategic stakeholder discussions with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and CGE Africa, ensuring women’s voices remain central in shaping the industry’s future.
Another achievement, says Fatayi-Williams, is WIEN’s continued focus on skills and capacity development through masterclasses, webinars, and workshops on topics ranging from finance, AI, cybersecurity, mental health, and leadership.
A high point of this focus is the Collegiate Mentorship Programme which engages young women, fostering professional skills and research capabilities, preparing the next generation of leaders in STEM and energy.
Other key achievements included:
- Strengthened support for women-led enterprises through collaborations with companies like eTranzact International Plc, offering discounted e-invoicing solutions, and partnering with the Presidency to identify women ready for board and executive leadership roles.
- In Port Harcourt, WIEN’s Girls in STEM Career Fair, organized with NLNG, brought students face-to-face with female professionals, mentorship sessions, and career guidance—turning abstract aspirations into real opportunities.
WIEN’s contributions have been recognized with Industry Advocate awards at the NAEC Annual Energy Industry Awards and the Gas Investment Forum. These accolades celebrate the network’s growing influence and serve as motivation to expand its reach further.
As the AGM concluded, Mrs Eyono Fatayi-Williams, while appreciating her re-election as President, called on members to embrace the next chapter with boldness, vision, and unity, reaffirming WIEN’s commitment to capacity-building, sustainable governance, and inclusive leadership in Nigeria’s energy sector.
With its new leadership, WIEN is poised to continue nurturing talent, empowering women entrepreneurs, and strengthening governance practices, ensuring that the energy sector in Nigeria becomes more equitable, innovative, and sustainable.
