At the ongoing UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP) 30 today, the Director General of NiMet, Professor Anosike, met with Ignitia CEO, Andrew Lala, to discuss advancing weather and climate information services across Nigeria.
The conversation focused on empowering meteorologists to deliver timely and actionable climate services, aligned with the Hon. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo’s push to enhance public-private partnerships in climate and aviation sectors.
Professor Anosike and Mr. Lala explored concrete collaborative strategies, including:
- Joint data-sharing platforms for seamless dissemination of weather information.
- Training workshops to build local capacity in climate services delivery.
The partnership envisions leveraging NiMet’s extensive meteorological network alongside Ignitia’s cutting-edge technology to ensure accurate weather updates reach even the most remote farming communities. Both leaders emphasized the importance of improving data accessibility for vulnerable populations and demonstrated how technology combined with community-led engagement can bolster climate resilience.
By clearly defining roles—NiMet providing meteorological expertise and community engagement, and Ignitia offering technological tools and operational support—the collaboration aims to:

- Empower local adaptation strategies.
- Enhance climate resilience across Nigeria’s farming communities.
