The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced the commemoration of its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of regulatory oversight and policy leadership in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry.
Since its establishment on 31 October 2005 under the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) 2005 — now succeeded by the Electricity Act 2023 — NERC has played a central role in shaping the evolution of Nigeria’s power sector.
Over the years, the Commission has guided the unbundling and privatisation of key industry assets, regulated the transition from interim to competitive electricity markets, and advanced reforms focused on transparency, accountability, and consumer protection.
In a statement to newsmen, NERC has announced it will mark this milestone by hosting a series of events and activities designed to highlight its achievements and chart a forward-looking agenda for the sector.
According to the statement, these events will bring together stakeholders from government, industry, development agencies, and consumer advocacy groups to review progress, exchange ideas, and reaffirm their commitment to a reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity supply for Nigeria.
Speaking ahead of the anniversary, NERC Vice Chairman Dr. Musiliu Oseni described the celebration as both a milestone and a reaffirmation of the Commission’s mandate.
“This 20th anniversary is not just a milestone — it’s a reaffirmation of our mandate to protect consumers, promote investment, and ensure a level playing field in Nigeria’s electricity sector,” Dr. Oseni said. “We remain committed to driving reforms that deliver tangible value to Nigerians.”
The anniversary programme will feature a technical session with industry experts, a health and wellness event, a debate contest on energy-saving practices for secondary school students, and a commemorative dinner honouring pioneer staff, past commissioners, and deceased members of the Commission.
As NERC reflects on two decades of progress, it has reaffirmed it remains focused on its mission to regulate Nigeria’s electricity supply industry in the public interest — balancing the needs of consumers and operators while supporting the country’s ongoing energy transition.

One thing is that often one of the most frequent incentives for using your credit cards is a cash-back or maybe rebate present. Generally, you’ll have access to 1-5 back for various buying. Depending on the credit card, you may get 1 returning on most expenses, and 5 back again on purchases made from convenience stores, gasoline stations, grocery stores and ‘member merchants’.
