GAMSU commissions ICT Centre at Obele Community Junior High School

 

 In commemoration of its Founder’s legacy and in line with its mission to enhance educational infrastructure and promote 21st-century learning, the Gamaliel & Susan Onosode Foundation (GAMSU) has officially commissioned a fully equipped ICT Centre at Obele Community Junior High School, Surulere, Lagos.

 

This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Toyin Olanrewaju, Executive Director, GAMSU, and made available to newsmen on Monday in Lagos.

The statement said that the facility which is transformed from an empty room into a modern digital hub, forms part of GAMSU’s Ideal Classroom Project, designed to create conducive learning environments across public schools.

 

According to it, the centre is equipped with work tables, chairs, ceiling fans, an inverter with solar panel installation, desktop computers, a projector, and a projector screen; all aimed at fostering digital literacy and promoting technology-driven education.

 

The statement noted that Obele Community Junior High School, which is founded on January 6, 2003, is a government co-educational institution located at 82 Randle Avenue, Surulere.

 

It added that the school currently serves a diverse population of 983 students (as of June 2025), most of whom come from low-income families within the Lawanson and Ojuelegba communities.

 

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Board Chair, Mr Moyo Ajekigbe, the Board Secretary, Mr. Spencer Onosode, said that the project reflected the enduring vision of the late Mr Gamaliel Onosode, who believed that education remained the most powerful tool for transformation.

 

“This initiative bridges the digital divide, fosters inclusive education, and ensures that no child is left behind in the quest for knowledge,” he said.

 

Mrs  Toyin Olanrewaju, Executive Director of GAMSU, emphasised the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to educational equity and innovation.

 

“At the heart of this intervention is our belief that every child, regardless of background, deserves access to quality education and the tools to thrive in a digital world,” she said.

 

She noted that the newly commissioned ICT Centre was expected to significantly improve computer literacy among students, while also enhancing teaching quality through the integration of digital instructional tools.

 

She said that the installation of solar-powered electricity ensures reliable access to ICT resources, even during power outages.

 

“At GAMSU, we remain steadfast in our mission to promote quality education and equip the next generation with the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital world,” Olanrewaju added.

 

Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mr Olusegun Oshinaike, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) for Education District IV, commended the Foundation for its intervention and commitment to educational advancement.

 

“Technology is an integral part of sustainable education.

 

 “We are grateful to GAMSU for this timely support, which will strengthen digital learning capacity not only at Obele Community Junior High School but also across neighbouring schools within the community,” Oshinaike said.
