In a continued effort to elevate standards in Nigeria’s energy journalism landscape, Sahara Group, in collaboration with the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC), has announced the “Making A Difference (M.A.D) with NAEC Workshop”; a capacity-building platform dedicated to advancing excellence and sustainability in energy reporting.
The initiative, themed #M.A.DwithNAEC, is designed to help journalists refine their craft, deepen sectoral understanding, and enhance their ability to communicate Nigeria’s energy reforms and transition agenda with accuracy and impact.
According to a joint statement issued on Monday by Bethel Obioma, Head of Corporate Communications, Sahara Group, and Ugo Amadi, Chairman of NAEC, the workshop forms part of the activities leading up to the Annual NAEC Energy Conference 2025, slated for Thursday, October 9, 2025. The pre-conference session will hold on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Joygate Hotel, Airport Road, Ajao Estate Gate, Lagos.
Speaking on the initiative, Obioma emphasized Sahara Group’s longstanding belief in the power of responsible journalism to drive national development.
“At Sahara, we believe accurate, responsible, and insightful reporting has the power to shape perception, attract investment, and promote transparency in the energy sector. #M.A.DwithNAEC reflects our commitment to repositioning the nation’s energy sector for global competitiveness through exceptional reporting,” he said.
He added that every headline, story, and analysis contributes to shaping public and investor confidence in the industry.
“By investing in the capacity of energy journalists, we are strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s energy ecosystem and laying a solid foundation for knowledge sharing and sustainability in reporting,” Obioma noted.
Chairman of NAEC, Ugo Amadi reaffirmed the association’s dedication to continuous learning and professional growth among its members, adding that the workshop represents a timely partnership in building a more informed and accountable energy media space.
“As we prepare for our annual conference, we’re delighted to collaborate with Sahara Group on this laudable initiative. Continuous learning is one of NAEC’s core values, and we look forward to broadening our perspectives to inspire reporting that builds trust and drives accountability,” he said.
The #M.A.DwithNAEC Workshop will feature technical and editorial sessions facilitated by Bethel Obioma, Kingsley Okotie (Head of Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric Plc), Olabode Sowunmi (Chief Executive Officer, Cabtree Ltd), and Dr. Vincent Nwanma (Editorial Board Member, Daily Trust).
This year’s Annual NAEC Energy Conference is expected to convene policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and media professionals to dissect emerging issues shaping Nigeria’s energy future.
The pre-conference workshop will serve as a strategic prelude; ensuring correspondents are equipped to deliver insightful, credible, and transformative coverage of both the conference and the wider energy landscape.
