NLNG Champions Artificial Intelligence as Catalyst for Efficiency and Sustainable Energy

The role and applicability of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in sustainable energy delivery has been given a huge boost as the Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) disclosed it is moving decisively to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations; citing the technology as a critical lever for efficiency, reliability, and sustainable energy delivery.

The company says the shift will keep its business future-ready while strengthening its Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Goal Zero aspiration.

Speaking at the 2025 GASTECH Conference in Milan during a panel session titled “Operational Excellence through the Application of Artificial Intelligence Technologies,” NLNG’s Deputy Managing Director, Olakunle Osobu, underscored the role of AI in redefining industry standards.

“Artificial intelligence is no longer a concept of tomorrow; it is today’s driver of efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in the energy sector. At NLNG, we’re embedding AI across our value chain to ensure our business is future-ready. Importantly, our ‘Goal Zero’ safety policy and operational efficiency targets are being significantly enhanced by AI. This has led to the improvement of our safety and business performance across the company’s entire value chain,” Osobu stated.

Osobu explained that AI has become indispensable in managing complex processes, especially within a company that is committed to continuous improvement. He pointed to practical use cases already in play: virtual reality and AI agents accelerating staff onboarding and improving knowledge retention; smart cameras and satellite technologies providing advanced analytics for monitoring operations and enforcing safety compliance.

He added that process automation and predictive maintenance tools are enhancing production and asset reliability, while AI-driven optimisation is supporting emissions monitoring to advance NLNG’s energy transition commitments.

According to him, the real entry point for organisations lies in integrating AI into existing platforms—unlocking predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance strategies that keep assets running at peak performance.

Equally important, Osobu noted, is NLNG’s value-first approach. Through its Centre of Excellence, the company is equipping staff with new skills to align AI adoption with business needs, ensuring real and measurable value delivery.
