The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has officially launched the rehabilitation and replacement of water distribution networks in four mini/micro waterworks across the state, a significant step towards improving access to potable water for residents.
The newly flagged-off projects cover Apapa I & II, Magodo I & II, Alexander I & II, as well as Magodo III & Isolo. The initiative was formally unveiled during a kick-off ceremony held at the Corporation’s headquarters in Ijora, Lagos.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, represented by the Executive Director of Operations, Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo, emphasized the importance of the rehabilitation efforts. She noted that the project is part of LWC’s ongoing commitment to improving water infrastructure and service delivery across Lagos.
“This initiative is geared towards enhancing our operational capabilities and ensuring a higher level of service delivery. Our goal is simple — to improve access to safe, potable water for all Lagosians,” said Taiwo.
The Corporation had previously conducted a thorough assessment of the aging distribution networks in the affected areas, which informed the need for replacement. Contracts were awarded following a successful procurement process in line with the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency’s guidelines.
The contractors selected for the rehabilitation works include:
- FBS Construction Engineering Services Ltd. for Magodo I & II
- Serock Services Ltd. for Alexander I & II
- Conswealth Nigeria Ltd. for Magodo III & Isolo
- Northcross Energy Ltd. for Apapa I & II
The Lagos State Ministries of Economic Planning & Budget (MEPB), and Works and Infrastructure, both present at the event, commended the initiative. They described it as a laudable step towards revitalizing essential infrastructure for improved public service.
Mr. Fuad Oyede, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at MEPB, representing the Permanent Secretary, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the success of the project. He assured stakeholders of active monitoring and strict adherence to the project’s timeline.
Similarly, Engr. (Mrs.) Laolu Aishida, representing the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Infrastructure, highlighted the Ministry’s longstanding collaboration with LWC. She welcomed the new development and called for continued inter-agency cooperation, especially with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, to resolve any Right of Way issues that may arise.
As part of the ceremony, the Corporation presented project designs and timelines to the contractors. The rehabilitation works are scheduled to span six months, starting from September 11, 2025.
In her closing remarks, Engr. Taiwo reminded stakeholders of the necessity of this infrastructure upgrade, pointing to similar successful rehabilitation efforts previously carried out in Abesan and Baruwa areas of the state.
“These networks have outlived their service life. This project isn’t just about repairs — it’s about securing the future and ensuring prosperity through reliable water supply,” she concluded.
The kick-off marks another critical step in the Lagos Water Corporation’s broader mission to modernize its infrastructure and improve living standards across the state.
