The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Minister of Power — Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and Minister of Women Affairs — Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim have been confirmed as Special Guests for the 4th International Investment Conference of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations Alliance (REEEAA), scheduled for September 23–24, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel in Lagos.
This is contained in a statement from the organizers. According to them, the line-up of special guests include the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Günther, and Massimo De Luca, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Nigeria, highlighting the role of global partnerships in supporting Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
The conference, themed “Energy Transition: From Rhetoric to Action in Nigeria,” is expected to draw more than 500 participants, ranging from government officials and financiers to technology providers, innovators, and development partners. Its focus is on translating Nigeria’s energy transition agenda into tangible outcomes.
Governor Sanwo-Olu is expected to outline Lagos’ role as a subnational energy hub, while Minister Adelabu will present Nigeria’s long-term strategy for energy access and modernization. Sulaiman-Ibrahim will address how women’s leadership and inclusion are vital to ensuring a just transition.
Institutional perspectives will come from Omotenioye Majekodunmi, the newly appointed Director General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), who will highlight governance priorities under the Energy Transition Plan. At the state level, Biodun Ogunleye, Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, will focus on electricity market reforms. Meanwhile, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, Kaduna State Commissioner for Education and Chairman of REEEAA’s Board of Trustees, will emphasize the importance of capacity building and skills development.
The program will feature breakout sessions across five thematic pillars:
- Policy & Regulation: Addressing fragmented frameworks and aligning with national and state-level reforms.
- Finance & Investment: Linking developers with financiers, DFIs, banks, and venture capital.
- Technology & Innovation: Exploring hydrogen, smart grids, and local manufacturing.
- Capacity & Inclusion: Highlighting youth-driven innovation and women-led clean energy projects.
- Communication & Engagement: Examining how media can build public trust in the transition.
Nigeria’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, supported by initiatives such as the Energy Transition Plan, Solar Power Naija, and the Nigeria Electrification Programme (NEP), provides the backdrop for the gathering. These programs, backed by the World Bank, AfDB, GIZ, and the EU, form part of the foundation the conference seeks to build on.
One of the event’s highlights will be the Inaugural Clean Energy Awards 2025, which will recognize innovators, policymakers, women and youth leaders, and community-based projects driving renewable energy adoption in Nigeria. Winners will be announced at a gala ceremony.
Chairman of the conference planning committee, Engr Ayodeji Dada in the statement disclosed there would be a showcase of innovations such as e-mobility solutions, battery storage systems, off-grid solar technologies, and workforce training initiatives; with the Electric Mobility Promoters Association of Nigeria (EMPAN) playing a key role in spotlighting the emerging e-mobility sector.
According to Prof. Magnus Onuoha, President of REEEAA, the event represents a turning point for collaboration:
“Nigeria has the ambition, the policies, and the partnerships. What we need now is catalytic capital and coordinated action. This conference is where leaders from government, industry, and development finance will align vision with action to ensure our transition delivers jobs, inclusivity, and energy for growth.”
With its blend of high-level political participation, international cooperation, and actionable frameworks, the REEEAA conference is positioned as one of the most significant clean energy gatherings in Nigeria this year.
