The Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) is s set to celebrate some of the country’s most influential petroleum industry leaders and organizations at its Annual Human Capacity Development (HCD) Awards on September 12, 2025, at the MUSON Center in Lagos.
Widely recognized as the umbrella body for training and knowledge transfer in the Nigerian oil and gas sector, OGTAN plays a critical role in supervising, standardizing, and certifying training institutions and curricula across the industry. The association has consistently emphasized that capacity development remains central to the sustainability of Nigeria’s energy landscape—particularly as the sector undergoes rapid transformation.
According to OGTAN President, Christopher Osasu Osarumwense, the awards highlight the importance of building the right skill sets to strengthen operating companies, service providers, and government agencies as new challenges and responsibilities emerge in the industry. “The HCD Awards provide a platform to honor institutions and individuals who continue to drive excellence in training, knowledge transfer, and local content development,” he explained.
This year’s edition—marking the fourth in the series—features an impressive lineup of honorees across corporate, individual, and institutional categories. The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) will receive the Excellence in Oil and Gas Training Award, while Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) is slated for the Best Corporate Training Partner Award.
The Lifetime Achievement in Capacity Building Award will be conferred on Dr. Ernest Nwapa, the pioneer Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB). The Board itself is also recognized with the Government Partner of the Year Award.
Other winners include:
- Pana Holdings Limited and Oilserv Limited – OGTAN Affiliate of the Year Award
- TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited – Young Professional Development Award
- Aradel Holdings PLC and First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company – Indigenous HCD Company of the Year Award
- Funmi Ogbue, CEO of Zigma Energy Group and pioneer President of the Women in Energy Network (WIEN) – Women in Energy Leadership Award
For OGTAN, the event is more than just an awards night.
Mrs. Ogbue, who is the Managing Director of Jake Riley, and serves as OGTAN’s Assistant Secretary and Head of Publicity, described it as “a night to celebrate excellence, honor industry leaders, and spotlight the champions driving human capacity development in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.”
The gathering is expected to attract industry captains, regulators, financiers, and investors, providing a unique networking opportunity for stakeholders while promoting collaboration across the training and human capital ecosystem.
Darlington Nwosu, Senior Manager at OGTAN, noted that the honorees represent “the highest standards of performance, leadership, and contribution to workforce development,” adding that the evening promises both celebration and strategic engagement.
Attendance is open through online registration via OGTAN’s website, with the association encouraging participants to secure their slots ahead of the event.
