African Energy Week: Lekoil Named Silver Partner, To Highlight ESG Leadership

Nigeria’s LEKOIL has confirmed it will feature as a Silver Partner at the upcoming African Energy Week (AEW) 2025 in Cape Town, where company executives are set to discuss its production growth targets and sustainability agenda. The event provides a platform for LEKOIL to share updates on ongoing projects, its focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, and its alignment with Nigeria’s broader energy reforms.

LEKOIL has set a medium-term target of producing 250,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd). To achieve this, the company is advancing a portfolio of marginal and offshore fields through rapid project delivery, technical innovation, and strategic partnerships.

The company’s Otakikpo field in Rivers State, acquired in 2014, remains central to its production base. It was brought into production within 18 months of acquisition—a milestone achievement among indigenous operators. Looking ahead, LEKOIL’s OPL 310 offshore Lagos holds significant promise, with estimated recoverable resources exceeding 700 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Beyond oil production, LEKOIL has pursued collaborations aimed at wider socioeconomic benefits. In early 2025, it entered into a strategic partnership with the Kwa Ibom State government. The agreement covers not only investment across the oil and gas value chain but also initiatives in agriculture, infrastructure, and community development.

LEKOIL places ESG considerations at the center of its operations, focusing on minimizing environmental impact, investing in host communities, and maintaining transparent governance structures. These efforts align with Nigeria’s energy sector reforms, which are introducing fiscal measures and executive directives to improve competitiveness, attract investment, and enhance accountability.

As Nigeria looks to balance production growth with sustainability, LEKOIL’s activities illustrate the role indigenous operators can play in advancing national energy objectives. By combining technical capacity with community-focused initiatives, the company positions itself as a contributor to both energy security and economic development.
