The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engr. Bayo Ojulari, has restated the company’s commitment to the growth and long-term sustainability of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG).
Ojulari made the pledge during a visit to the NLNG plant on Bonny Island, Rivers State, last Thursday, where he was warmly received by the Managing Director and CEO of NLNG, Dr. Philip Mshelbila.
Accompanying the NNPCL boss were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emeka Vitalis; NNPCL’s Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye; Company Secretary and General Counsel, Adesua Dozie; Chief Gas Power Investment Officer, Salihu Jamari; and other senior executives.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Mshelbila described NNPCL as a dependable shareholder with a proven commitment to securing the gas value chain and addressing operational challenges facing the LNG producer. He called for sustained investment in stabilising gas supply, de-risking critical infrastructure, and unlocking upstream opportunities to ensure growth momentum, boost investor confidence, and strengthen Nigeria’s global energy competitiveness.
Ojulari, in his remarks, praised NLNG as “a beacon of governance, performance, transparency, and sustainability” in Nigeria’s energy landscape. He noted that the visit provided an opportunity to reconnect with NLNG’s leadership team, review operations, and identify new avenues for continuous improvement, plant reliability, and enhanced revenue generation.
He further disclosed NNPCL’s intention to advance a dynamic Gas Master Plan while also exploring hydrogen collaborations with NLNG as part of Nigeria’s broader preparation for a net-zero future.
On his part, Dr. Vitalis underscored NLNG’s strategic role in Nigeria’s energy transition and economic resilience. He emphasised the importance of the ongoing Train 7 expansion project in achieving the country’s gas export targets and stressed the need for asset integrity and emission reduction across the entire gas value chain.
The NNPCL delegation toured critical NLNG operational facilities, including the main plant complex and the Train 7 construction site, where they were received by members of the company’s leadership team: Nnamdi Anowi, General Manager, Production; Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development; Aka Nwokedi, General Counsel; Fatima Adanan, General Manager, Finance; and Ekeinde Ohiwerei, General Manager, Corporate Services.
The visit further reaffirmed NNPCL’s position as a committed partner in driving NLNG’s continued success and Nigeria’s ambition for a sustainable, globally competitive energy future.
